Yuka Sumi, MD, PhD

Yuka Sumi holds an MD from the Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine and a PhD from Osaka University, Japan. She is a certified specialist of Acute and Critical Care Medicine and the Japan Surgical Society. She has worked as an associate professor in the Department of Emergency and Critical Care Medicine and in the Faculty of Gerontology in Juntendo University. In 2016, she joined the Healthcare New Frontier Promotion Headquarters Office in the Kanagawa Prefectural Government in Japan as a Global Health Senior Project Leader.

In December 2016, she joined the WHO Department of Ageing and Life Course as a secondment from the Kanagawa Prefectural Government, Japan. She leads on the establishment of a Clinical Consortium on Healthy Ageing, which is a multidisciplinary, multi-institutional network of experts, to contribute to the development of standards and guidelines on the clinical aspects of Healthy Ageing. She is also developing clinical guidelines for Integrated Care for Older People (ICOPE) in primary care settings. She is also supporting the mAgeing program with the Be He@lthy, Be Mobile initiative of the WHO Department of Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases.
