Enhancing capacity to apply research evidence in policy-making-Phase II

Enhancing Capacity to Apply Research Evidence in Policy-making for Reproductive Health in Bangladesh

The objective of the study is to strengthen evidence-based policy-making for reproductive health programs in Bangladesh by focusing on ‘user’s pull’ and promoting ‘exchange between policy-makers and researchers’.

The proposed study will identify the capacity needs of policy-makers in using research evidence to inform policy development. It will then address those needs through:

  • organizing executive training programs to enhance their ability to acquire, assess, adapt and apply relevant research evidence for policy-making;
  • establishing a “research-policy communication cell” within government to identify, compile, summarize, and communicate important and relevant evidence to potential users. This will involve summarizing content into a user-friendly format, including writing newspaper articles on important research findings, estabilshing a mobile network with potential evidence users, and hosting a webpage for posting summary evidence from both completed and ongoing research;
  • enhancing interactions between the producers and users of research through interactive meetings, seminars and symposiums; and
  • strengthening collaboration and engagement between researchers and policy-makers to ensure need-based research and evidence-informed policy to improve reproductive health outcomes.
