Access to Medicines Policy Research
Access to Medicines Policy Research Update of the Systematic Review on "Financial incentive for prescribers" - Tehran University of Medical Sciences
The Access to Medicines program aims at improving the availability and use of evidence on access to medicines in low- and middle-income countries. Systematic review of available evidence on pharmaceutical policies is one of the recognized methods to synthesize available evidence for use by academia and policy-makers.
The systematic review of "Pharmaceutical policies: effects of financial incentives for prescribers" was published in the Cochrane Library of Systematic Reviews in 2007 (The Cochrane Library 2007, Issue 4). The review needs to be updated according to the standards of the Cochrane collaboration. An accurate update of the review will provide extremely useful information on effect of financial incentives for prescribers and will contribute to design and implement more effective policies aimed at reducing irrational prescription of medicines.
The objective of this work is to update the above mentioned systematic review for final publication in the Cochrane Library of Systematic Review. The update will follow the standard methodology of the Cochrane Collaboration and will be supervised by Dr. Andy Oxman, from the Norwegian Knowledge Centre for the Health Services / Norwegian Satellite of the Cochrane EPOC Group.
Dr Arash Rashidian (School of Public Health and National Institute of Health Research, Tehran University of Medical Sciences) will lead this work. Dr. Rashidian has broad experience in running large, multi-center research studies, has comprehensive knowledge of systematic review and a core interest in access and use medicines. He has published a few systematic reviews including Cochrane reviews.
