Overview
This is the report of a special meeting of APOC partners, which was convened in Yaoundé, Cameroon, in September 2006. The meeting brought together African ministers of health, representatives from donor agencies, non-governmental development organizations (NGDOs), APOC management, national onchocerciasis coordinators, Merck & Co., Inc., the international neglected tropical disease community, and the private sector.
The goal of the meeting was to share with partners the findings and recommendations of A strategic overview of the future of onchocerciasis control in Africa.
The report summarizes the main discussion points and findings of the four main sessions:
- the potential expansion of APOC activities beyond the year 2010 and the strengthening of its mandate and capacity
- the potential role for APOC in promoting integration of CDTI with primary health infrastructure and the co-implementation of onchocerciasis and other health interventions
- the potential expansion of the geographic mandate of APOC to former Onchocerciasis Control Program (OCP) countries
- a proposed strategic plan for APOC for 2007-2015 and the future financing needs for APOC.
