Mortality due to snake bites can be considered in some parts of the world as a real public health issue.
Above, catching of a Bitis Gabonica (Gaboon viper).
After having been immobilized with a forkheaded wooden stick, the animal can then be held safely behind the head. Venom is extracted and is collected in a sample box placed under the snake's teeth.
