Action plan for the prevention of avoidable blindness and visual impairment for 2014-2019
31 August 2012 – 8 October 2012
‘Zero Draft’ action plan for the Prevention of Avoidable Blindness and Visual Impairment 2014-2019
In response to decision EB130(1) operative paragraphs 1 and 2, requesting the Director-General to develop a draft action plan for the prevention and control of avoidable blindness and visual impairment for the period 2014-2019, the WHO Secretariat has prepared a ‘zero draft’ action plan (available below) for discussion during an informal consultation with Member States, international partners and UN Agencies on the same topic, which will be convened on 8 October 2012 at the WHO Executive Board Room at WHO headquarters in Geneva.
The consultative process to date is as follows:
A web-based consultation took place between 24 February 2012 and 16 March 2012. Member States and international partners were invited to respond to a series of questions regarding the current 2009-2013 action plan, lessons learnt and what should be included in the action plan for the period 2014-2019.
• The WHO Secretariat posted a WHO Discussion Paper for a web-based consultation for Member States and international partners between 20 April 2012 and 18 May 2012
• Member States, international partners and UN Agencies will be invited to share their comments in response to the “zero draft” action plan during the informal consultation on 8 October 2012 and/or by sending an email before 8 October 2012 to email@example.com
The outcomes of the informal consultation on 8 October 2012 will serve as an input for the WHO Secretariat to prepare a draft action plan for submission to the Sixty-sixth World Health Assembly, through the Executive Board.
