This month's cover features a photograph of malaria control efforts in the Islamic Republic of Iran, taken by Philip Boucas in 1958.
Malaria is still the greatest scourge of mankind.
Hundreds of millions of people are stricken by attacks of malaria every year. Yet it can be wiped out by the use of DDT and similar insecticides which destroy the mosquito that carries the disease. This method has already succeeded in a number of countries and is being used today in many more where malaria still rages.
