Amsterdam, the Netherlands: Thank you, blood donors!

The World Blood Donor Day festivities took place on 14 June 2016 in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The King of the Netherlands Willem-Alexander opened the ceremony by thanking 2 recipients of blood donation.

Hernan Montenegro, WHO Coordinator in charge of blood safety, delivered speech on World Blood Donor Day.

The machine is separating out the plasma from the platelets, at the the Dutch Blood Bank, one of two centers serving the country.

Every blood sample from a donor is tested for disease. This machine can test 300 samples an hour. The filtering can screen out viruses as small as 20 nanometers.

Vietnam officially accepted to be the host country for next year's World Blood Donor Day that will take place on 14 June 2017.
