Global Burden of Disease Regions used for WHO-CHOICE Analyses

The WHO member states are listed below with their respective region.
The regions are based on the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) regional classification system.

Definitions of the regions can be found in the World Health Report 2002.

All member states are classified into the following geographical regions and mortality strata:

Epidemiological Sub-Regions

- African Region
- Eastern Mediterranean Region
- European Region
- Region of the Americas
- South-East Asian Region
- Western Pacific Region

Mortality Strata:

  • Very low child, very low adult
  • Low child, low adult
  • Low child, high adult
  • High child, high adult
  • High child, very high adult
