Current and Future Long-Term Care Needs

This is an analysis based on the 1990 WHO study "The Global Burden of Disease" to calculate the prevalence of severe levels of disability. Estimates were made on the numbers of people in the world who require daily care by another person for their health, personal, or domestic needs, beyond that expected for an able-bodies person. Population projections were used to forecast these estimates over the next fifty years. These data are subject to a number of approximating assumptions. Limited empirical data are available, but generally support the validity of the estimates.
