UN tackles noncommunicable diseases

The UN General Assembly is holding the first High-level Meeting on preventing and controlling noncommunicable diseases in September 2011. It offers an historic chance to prioritize action against cancers, diabetes, cardiovascular and chronic lung diseases, which kill over 35 million people annually and have major development and socioeconomic impacts.
