Informal discussions on strengthening national preparedness and response to biological weapons

Objectives of the meeting

These informal discussions are to identify the critical elements of WHO's technical support to Members States health preparedness and response programmes in response to possible use of biological weapons. These critical elements once identified, will guide WHO in:




  • The development of guidelines for initiating or strengthening national preparedness and response programmes
  • The establishment of an international network of experts
  • The organization of regional/national training workshops

Reports

The report presents the main actions recommended by the working group such as:

  • National core capacities and gap analysis for responding to biological weapons
  • Establish an international resources inventory to provide information on current accessible resources for effective country support
  • Compile, revise, adapt and develop Guidelines to cover risks from biological weapons
  • Strengthen and support human resources development for national preparedness and response to biological weapons and to establish Training modules.
