The Global Influenza Surveillance Network (GISN) continues monitoring the global circulation of influenza viruses, including seasonal viruses. Since the beginning of the pandemic in 19 April 2009 to September 12th, a total of 80 countries reported to FluNet. Total number of specimens reported positive for influenza viruses by NIC laboratories was 110,969. Of these, 67,207 (60.6%) were pandemic H1N1, 6054 (5.5%) were seasonal A (H1), 15,748 (14.2%) were A (H3), 18,101 (16.3%) were A (Not subtyped) and 3854 (3.5%) were influenza B.
For this reporting week (6th September to 12 September 2009); a total of 20 countries reported to FluNet. Total number of specimens reported positive for influenza viruses by NIC laboratories was 5862. Of these, 4444 (75.8 %) were pandemic H1N1, 155 (2.6 %) were seasonal A (H1), 440 (7.5%) were A (H3), 780(13.3 %) were A (Not subtyped), 43 (0.7%) were influenza B. On average, the pandemic A (H1N1) accounted for 76 % of all flu detections (76 % in northern hemisphere and 87 % in southern hemisphere).
