2000 - Cholera in South Africa - Update 3

Disease Outbreak Reported
As of 26 October 2000 the Kwazulu-Natal Department of Health has reported 3 806 cases and 33 deaths since the start of the outbreak in mid-August 2000 (see previous report).
The outbreak in Kwazulu-Natal is affecting the following areas: Lower Umfolozi districts which include Ngwelezane and Empangeni, Eshowe/Nkandla areas, Durban, KwaDukuza/Stanger area, Jozini and Port Shepstone. The three cases reported from Durban are imported cases.
Intensive public education measures are continuing.
