Plague in Algeria - Update

Disease Outbreak Reported
As of 2 July, the Ministry of Health, Algeria has reported a total of 10 cases of which 8 have been laboratory confirmed (see previous report). These include 8 cases of bubonic plague and 2 of septicemic plague, of which one was fatal. Eight additional cases are under investigation.
A team from WHO and the Institut Pasteur, Paris, France, a partner in the Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network is working with the Ministry of Health to carry out epidemiological investigations and assist with vector control measures.
