Cholera in Senegal- update 4

From the week 2-8 May 2005, the Ministry of Health, Senegal reported a total of 509 cases and 6 deaths (case fatality rate 1.2%). Diourbel is still the most severely affected region with 288 cases and 2 deaths(see previous report). Cases are reported to be decreasing in the city of Touba with an average of 10 cases per day compared to an average of 33 cases reported per day two weeks ago.

The Ministry of Health has implemented several measures for prevention and response, including dissemination of health messages, prepositioning of supplies and ensuring a safe and adequate water supply.
