Integrated capacity development programme for laboratory specialists

Laboratory practicum, February 2002

This is a specialized 2-year programme targeted at laboratory specialists from developing countries. The participants of the programme are given the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills through mentoring by experts in a variety of technical areas. This programme focuses on strengthening disease detection and response activities in their home countries through the elaboration and implementation of a plan of action and specially tailored field training and support.

Highlights 2002

The second group of participants entered the programme in January and were selected from Middle Eastern and Northern African countries (WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region) and included the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Lebanese Republic, the Republic of Iraq, the Republic of the Sudan, the Republic of Yemen, and the Syrian Arab Republic.

The third group of participants entered the programme in October. They were from Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union and included Georgia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Bulgaria, the Republic of Moldova, the Republic of Turkey, Romania, the Russian Federation and Ukraine.
