- Protocol for the Assessment of national communicable disease surveillance and response systems. Guidelines for assessment teams(French)This manual has been developed for World Health Organization (WHO) staff and partners carrying out assessments of national communicable disease surveillance systems with a national team. It will help WHO staff and consultants guide a group of national professionals through an assessment of the overall structure and performance of surveillance activities in a Member State. This assessment should lead to a standardised report and an agreed plan of action. The plan of action will include a practical timetable for implementation, agreed upon by the Ministry of Health (MoH), WHO and by other partners who may be contributing to the process,
- WHO Recommended surveillance standards. Second edition (French) This manual aims to coordinate surveillance strengthening activities of various diseases. It presents 40 specific diseases and 8 syndromes all addressed in the same format. For each disease or syndrome there is a description of the rationale for surveillance, case definition, types of surveillance, minimum data elements, data analyses and principal uses of data for decision making. It is hoped that the document will contribute to strengthening multi-disease surveillance at country level.
- WHO report on global surveillance of epidemic-prone infectious diseasesThis report focuses on the analysis and interpretation of data collected by WHO on the surveillance of infectious epidemic-prone diseases, the strengths and weaknesses of the data and how the data can be used and interpreted. Each chapter on a specific disease contains a background of the disease including a brief history, a short description of the transmission process, clinical features, and other characteristics of the disease that are important for surveillance. The available data are described, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of the surveillance system. This is followed by a summary of disease trends and a concluding section. A list of reference documents and web pages are also available.
