WHO Global Conference on Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS): Where do we go from here? will open on Tuesday, 17 June 2003, at 09:00; it will close on Wednesday, 18 June 2003.

The Conference will be held in the Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel, Persiaran Lagoon, Bandar Sunway, 46150, Petaling Jaya, Selangor Darul Ehsan, Malaysia. Arrival in Kuala Lumpur

Participants travelling by air will arrive at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

Hotel reservations and other arrangements should be made well in advance of arrival.

Participants requiring an entry visa must obtain this from the Malaysian consulate or diplomatic mission responsible for the necessary arrangements in their country of residence.


Visitors are strongly advised to have enough cash in Malaysian Ringgit, RM (Malaysian currency) for their travel to Kuala Lumpur. ATM machines at the airport do NOT operate 24 hours a day. US Dollars and major foreign currencies can be cashed into Malaysian Ringgit at airport foreign exchange counters.

Taxis and limousine

Two levels of limousine taxi service are provided at KLIA, i.e. Premier and Budget Service. This is a prepaid service and coupons have to be purchased at service counters at the arrival concourse. The Premier service uses limousine deluxe cars (e.g. Mercedes Benz). Queuing and pick-up for the Budget service is at Door No. 3 and for the Premier service is at Door No. 7.

Car rental

Most major car rental companies operate counters at the arrival concourse on a 24-hour basis. Chauffeur driven cars are available through prior reservation with hotels. For passenger convenience, cars can be returned at designated car rental counters located at the Ground Level of Block D of the Covered Car Park.

Plenary sessions of the WHO Global Conference on Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS): Where do we go from here? will be open to registered invited participants, members of media and other registered interested parties.

Working groups and ad hoc meetings will only be open to WHO invited participants.


The credentials of invited participants, general public and the media should be communicated to WHO Geneva by fax: + 41 22 791 4666, or by email: conferencesars@who.int, not later than 10 June 2003.


Participants will be able to register and receive their badges before the opening of the Conference.

When registering, invited participants are asked to show their invitation and a copy of their reply, and complete a registration form. Upon receipt of the completed registration form, a badge is prepared and given to the participant. (If the secretariat has received a response to the invitation in adequate time, name badges will already have been prepared). It is important to wear the badge at all times.

Inquiry desk

The Inquiry Office will be located next to the registration desk. It provides guidance on a range of matters of interest to participants, and will direct them to other services, such as travel, mail, finance and communications. Lost property may be turned in or claimed at this office. Working hours of the inquiry desk are:

Arrangements for conduct of discussion in plenary sessions

Participants are requested to limit to three minutes their statements in discussions. Statements should be succinct and address the issue being discussed. Participants may opt for group or regional statements, in lieu of individual statements.

Restaurant, cafeteria and bar

The hotel offers diverse restaurants and bars. Outlets include an Italian American Ristorante, West Lake Garden Chinese Restaurant, Nagisa Japanese Restaurant, Sun & Surf Café, The Lobby Lounge and the Laguna Poolside.

Business hours

Government offices are opened from 08:00 to 16:15 on weekdays and 08:00 to 12:45 on Saturday.

Banking hours are generally from 10:00 to 15:00 Mondays to Fridays and 9:30 to 11:30 on Saturdays.

Department stores and supermarkets are opened daily from 10:00 to 22:00.
