Madagascar

This baby boy has just been born at the Befelatanana maternity hospital in Antananarivo. He is healthy, but infant mortality remains a challenge in Madagascar, where 139 of every 1000 children die before their fifth birthday. The government is committed to making progress and is working with partners to improve, for example, obstetric services and immunization coverage including against tetanus and measles.
