Dr Geoff Gill
Dr Gill qualified in medicine at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne in England, and subsequently trained in internal medicine, diabetes and endocrinology, and tropical medicine. He worked for 2 years in Zambia, initially as a medical officer, and later as consultant physician. Later he worked as senior medical specialist at Baragwanath Hospital (University of Witwatersrand) in Soweto, South Africa.
He is now a consultant physician and diabetologist in Liverpool, and Reader at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. His research interests cover delivery of diabetes care in remote and resource-poor situations, and also chronic disease evolution in transitional populations. He visits Africa regularly for teaching and research, and has published widely on various aspects of diabetes in tropical and developing countries. He is editor of the journal Diabetes International, and co-editor of the books Diabetes in Africa, Lecture Notes in Tropical Medicine and Principles of Medicine in Africa.
