Professor Ron LaPorte

Dr LaPorte earned a doctorate in Cognitive Psychology in 1977 and later a Masters degree in Epidemiology, 1981. He has 505 publications in Epidemiology, Global Health, and the Internet. Dr Laporte has received numerous awards and grants in recognition of his work. He was awarded the First Distinguished Teacher, Graduate School of Public Health, University of Pittsburgh in 1989. He was awarded the Kelly West Diabetes Epidemiology Award from the American Diabetes Association. He also holds the Lillienfeld Award, APHA for outstanding life time achievement in education. He has also lead many national and international projects funded from NIH, and NASA.

He currently serves as Director of Disease Monitoring and Telecommunications - a WHO Collaborating Center. He is the developer and Principal Investigator of the WHO multinational Project for Childhood Diabetes, involving 155 centers in 70 countries as well as the Global Health Network.
