Professor Jean Claude Mbanya

Professor Mbanya is Professor of Endocrinology and Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine and Specialities, Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, University of Yaoundé I, Yaoundé, Cameroon, Consultant Physician and Chief of Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases Unit, Hôpital Central Yaoundé, Cameroon and Director, Health of Population in Transition Research Group, Cameroon. He is a member WHO African Advisory Committee on Health Research and Development, Member of the WHO Expert Advisory Panel on Chronic Degenerative Diseases Diabetes, WHO Committee on Classification and Diagnosis of Diabetes and Vice President and Member Board of Management of the International Diabetes Federation.

His research interest is in the epidemiology of noncommunicable diseases especially diabetes and its complications, ethno-pharmacology and molecular biology of diabetes, obesity, hypertension and thyroid diseases and their impact on the health care systems of developing countries. He has a wide span of expertise but his current focus is on clinical application of basic research and equity of access to care and education and the integration of diabetes and endocrine diseases in the primary healthcare activities of developing countries.
