May 2004: final strategy document and resolution

WHO has developed, under a May 2002 mandate from Member States, a Global Strategy on Diet, Physical Activity and Health, which was endorsed by the May 2004 World Health Assembly. The text of the final resolution (WHA57.17) and the annexed Global Strategy on Diet, Physical Activity and Health is available in the six WHO official languages:

April 2004: earlier draft strategy considered by World Health Assembly

The World Health Organization draft Global Strategy on Diet, Physical Activity and Health was despatched to Member States and made public on the WHO web site on 19 April 2004.

The World Health Assembly document A57/9 includes a Report by Secretariat, a draft resolution and an annexed global strategy and it is available in the six WHO official languages:

A total of 58 Member State comments received by 5 March 2004 were taken into account by a WHO secretariat working group in producing the WHA draft (WHA document A57/9). A further 11 comments were received after the redrafting process was concluded. All comments from Member States have been placed on this website and can be found on the next page in this series.

WHO Secretariat has developed the Global Strategy through a wide-ranging series of consultations with all concerned stakeholders. This has included formal meetings with Member States (attended by more than 80 countries), other UN agencies, civil society and nongovernmental organisations, and the private sector. January 2004: draft strategy and resolution considered by the WHO Executive Board

The earlier draft strategy (EB113/44 Add.1) and resolution (EB113/44) were considered by the WHO Executive Board (EB) in January 2004. The resolution was amended and approved (EB113.R7).
