WHO Director-General meets with the International Disability Alliance (IDA)
On 13 September, the WHO Director-General, Dr Margaret Chan; Deputy Director-General, Dr Anarfi Asamoah-Baah; Adviser to the Director-General, Dr Ian Smith; Director VIP and Coordinator DAR met with the Chairperson and other representatives from the International Disability Alliance (IDA). IDA is a consortium of 8 Disabled Peoples Organizations (DPO's). The meeting provided an opportunity to listen to DPOs and receive suggestions on the contributions WHO can make to implement the new Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Dr Chan took the opportunity to confirm her strong commitment to contribute to implementing the Convention and gradually strengthen the WHO activities in this area.
