World report on disability launched regionally in Pacific Islands

On 3 October WHO and the World Bank hosted a sub-regional launch of the World report on disability at the Pacific Disability Ministers Meeting in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, providing ministers and government officials with an overview of important findings and recommendations from the report.

Ms Ipul Powesu, Chairperson, Papua New Guinea National Assembly of Disabled People, told ministers how DPOs use the evidence in the World report on disability to strengthen their advocacy efforts and enhance project proposals to government.

In his closing remarks Mr Feleti Teo, Deputy Secretary General Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, urged ministers to view the report as an important tool that will assist them in delivering on their obligations under the CRPD and their national and regional disability strategies.
