Disabilities and rehabilitation

International Seminar on the implementation of the World report on disability held in Sao Paulo

This International Seminar was organized from 23-25 February by the Sao Paulo State Secretariat for the Rights of the Person with Disability in conjunction with the Global Partnership on Disability and Development, the International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine and the Latin-American Network of NGOs of Persons with Disabilities and their Families. Dr Linamara Rizzo Battistella, State Secretary for the Rights of the Person with Disability, Sao Paulo State Government, opened and chaired the event launching the Portuguese version of the World report on disability.

The seminar, which focused on health and rehabilitation, brought together nearly 700 participants including government and service providers, representatives of civil society and many leaders and others with disability. A key outcome was the agreement to develop a framework for collaboration with WHO on the merging of International Classification of Functioning in the context of the revision process for the International Classification of Diagnosis 11 with the objective to have a much stronger focus on functioning.
