Wheelchair service training package launched
The Wheelchair service training package: basic level was launched at the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA) Conference, which was held in Baltimore, United States, on 30 June 2012. Following the launch at the RESNA conference, WHO in partnership with USAID and Management Sciences for Health (MSH) held a Training of Experts workshop from 4-8 July 2012 in Washington DC. Twenty-five experts from 18 different countries have been selected as a first batch of trainees.
The aim of the Training of Experts workshop is to familiarize the participants with the various components of the Wheelchair service training package: basic level and most importantly, how to deliver a related training. Participants will then deliver the training programme within their own country and in neighboring countries on their return. Initially they will be supported by a small group of senior experts. WHO, through a series of regional workshops, expects to train 200 experts in the next two years and develop a network of trainers. These activities will be supported by USAID and other development partners.
