First regional meeting on rehabilitation held in the WHO Western Pacific Region
On 25-27 June WHO WPRO hosted a meeting on 'Increasing Access to Quality Rehabilitation Services in Asian Countries of the WHO Western Pacific Region'. The meeting was attended by 54 people including representatives from ministries of health, ministries of social affairs, national disability councils, disabled people's organizations and national rehabilitation centre directors. The meeting was an historic one being the first dedicated to rehabilitation in the region and timely with its linkage to implementation of the new WHO global disability action plan 2014-2021: Better health for all people with disability and the universal health coverage agenda. It resulted in significant increases in national understanding and commitment to rehabilitation services and development of a regional rehabilitation sector leadership initiative.
