Disabilities and rehabilitation

The Lancet - the first disability-themed issue

To celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2009, The Lancet has published the first ever disability-themed issue in its 186 year history. This helps pave the way for the World report on disability and rehabilitation, forthcoming in 2010.

Rhona MacDonald and Zoe Mullan of the Lancet, Alana Officer, Tom Shakespeare, Shekhar Saxena of WHO and Professor Nora Groce of University College London, have been involved on the editorial committee of the special issue which highlights the importance of training health professionals in disability and disability equality issues and features articles on the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, community-based rehabilitation, disability in emergencies and assistive technologies in the developing world, among other issues.
