Disease Control in Humanitarian Emergencies

Technical guidelines

DCE sets standards and develops guidelines

DCE sets standards and develops guidelines and new and simplified tools for communicable disease control in humanitarian emergencies. These include a reference field manual on communicable disease control in emergencies, communicable diseases risk assessments for specific emergencies for appropriate prioritization of communicable diseases interventions, fact sheets on communicable diseases relating to specific emergencies, and disease surveillance/early warning and response guidelines for epidemic surveillance and rapid response during the acute phase of emergencies.

DCE also collaborates with other WHO departments on disease-specific and cross-cutting guidelines in emergencies, including for malaria, TB, and child health.

Communicable diseases and crises
WHO continues to track the evolving infectious disease situation, sound the alarm when needed, share expertise, and mount the kind of response needed to protect populations from the consequences of epidemics, whatever and wherever might be their origin.
