|About WHO publications
Through its many international networks, WHO is uniquely placed to generate health data, apply facts to problems, and recommend solutions that can lead to real improvements in health. Much of the information developed by WHO is made available to the world through an extensive programme of publications, now numbering 3 periodicals and around 50 new books each year.
Some are practical manuals for use in preventing and controlling disease or developing quality health care. Others are unique guides to internationally accepted procedures, standards, or practice, introducing uniformity to world medical care. Still others attack urgent technical problems with advice formulated and agreed upon by international groups of experts.
Regardless of topic, all publications contribute to the larger WHO objective of using the tools of pragmatism, developed during more than 50 years of experience and backed by the best scientific knowledge, to pursue the visionary goal of better health for all.
Most WHO publications are issued by WHO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and cover topics important to international public health. Books covering problems found in specific countries or geographical regions are issued by any of the six WHO Regional Offices.
