summary of virtual meetings 29 June, 17 September, 5-6 November, 14 December 2020
Overview
The European Regional Verification Commission for Measles and Rubella Elimination (RVC) met for the ninth time through a series of virtual meetings held between June and December 2020. Members of the RVC evaluated 48 national annual status updates (ASUs) for 2019 submitted by the national verification committees for measles and rubella elimination (NVCs). ASUs were not received from 5 Member States. The RVC concluded that, by the end of 2019, 30 Member States had provided evidence to demonstrate that endemic transmission of measles was interrupted. Of these, 29 have eliminated measles, having documented interrupted transmission for at least 36 months. Endemic rubella transmission was interrupted in 45 Member States, all of which were considered to have eliminated rubella. Twenty-nine Member States provided evidence for the elimination of both measles and rubella. Measles transmission was considered to have been re-established in 6 countries that had previously achieved measles elimination status.
