EVIPNet methodologies to connect research and policy processes

  • Support the organization of agenda-setting processes periodically to engage researchers and knowledge brokers in converting these priorities to topics for:
    • policy briefs that can be prepared in timelines of 2-6 months;
    • systematic reviews that can be prepared in 6-18 months;
    • new primary research that can be conducted over 1-5 years.
  • support the mapping of stakeholders involve in policy-making process at global, regional and country levels;
  • support the institutionalization and sustainability of existing and new EVIPNet country teams and their knowledge translation platforms;
  • support the organization of capacity building workshops in the preparation of evidence briefs for policy and national policy dialogue and the development of policy-makers, stakeholders and researchers skills in finding and using research evidence (through training of trainers approach);
  • support the development of rapid response mechanism at country level;
  • support innovative initiatives and process in evidence-informed policy-making.

Supporting the Use of Research Evidence (SURE)

SURE for policy in African health systems is a collaborative project that builds on and supports the Evidence-Informed Policy Network (EVIPNet) in Africa and the REACH (Regional East African Community Health Policy Initiative). The project involves teams of researchers and policymakers in 11 African countries and is supported by research teams in four European countries and Canada. SURE is funded by the European Commission’s 7th Framework Programme.

  • EVIPNet Virtual Health Library (VHL) or clearinghouse
    The EVIPNet Portal of the Virtual Health Library (VHL) organizes, and offers integrated access to health information sources of better level of evidence through relevant health evidence databases, and access to the EVIPNet methodology and tools. It has as aim to the process of development of new evidence-based studies and application of the EVIPNet methodology and tools.
  • Health Systems Evidence Database
    Health Systems Evidence is a continuously updated repository of syntheses of research evidence about governance, financial and delivery arrangements within health systems, and about implementation strategies that can support change in health systems.

E-learning curricula on evidence-informed policy-making (in development)

An e-Learning platform is currently being developed to assist WHO staff with the conceptual and technical elements of evidence-informed policy-making. The e-Learning module will be initially directed toward individuals and departments that have requested or shown interest in capacity building for evidence informed policymaking processes.
