International Women's Day, 8 March 2004
Established in 1977 by the United Nations, 8 March is celebrated as International Women’s Day (IWD). This day provides an opportunity to reflect on the advances in women’s equality, assess the challenges women face in different social-cultural contexts, consider future steps to enhance the status of women and celebrate the gains made in these areas.
In keeping with the UN theme for 8 March "Women and HIV/AIDS", the Gender and Women's Health Department (GWH) is holding a panel discussion on this theme.
