Side events


The following is the provisional list of the topics of side events that will take place from 13:30 to 14:30 each day (two side events will take place in parallel), and will be open to participants. The exact time and location and any further details will be indicated in the daily journal.

The topics of side events will include:

Monday, 7 November, 13:30−14:30

  • Impact assessment: lessons learned (and how to use this tool to advance implementation of the Convention)
  • Preventing tobacco industry interference: What’s new? And what’s next?

Tuesday, 8 November, 13:30−14:30

  • Implementation of Articles 9 & 10 and Guidelines
  • Establishment of an Implementation Review Mechanism for the WHO FCTC

Wednesday, 9 November, 13:30−14:30

  • WHO FCTC: A powerful tool for promoting the implementation and financing of sustainable development goals

• Healthier and environment-friendly alternatives to tobacco cultivation (in relation to Articles 17 and 18 of the WHO FCTC)

Thursday, 10 November, 13:30−14:30

  • Gender-specific tobacco control strategies
  • Providing assistance to Parties: South-South and Triangular Cooperation, the Expert Panel on the Protocol to Eliminate Illicit Trade and the Civil Liability Toolkit prepared by the Expert Group on Article 19

Friday, 11 November, 13:30−14:30

  • Providing assistance to Parties: WHO FCTC Knowledge Hubs and Observatories
    • Plain packaging and large graphic health warnings: effective demand-reduction measures
