Second session of the Conference of the Parties to the WHO FCTC

At its second session, held from 30 June to 6 July 2007 in Bangkok, Thailand, the 146 Parties comprising the Conference of the Parties (COP2) to the WHO FCTC made important strides forward in the efforts to control tobacco use globally. 12 States non-Party, four international intergovernmental organizations, and 16 nongovernmental organizations attended the COP as observers.

The second session of the COP adopted the guidelines of Article 8 on protection from exposure to tobacco smoke and decided to initiate or continue the work on five other guidelines on different articles of the Convention. The Conference also decided to establish an Intergovernmental Negotiating Body on a Protocol to Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products.
