Memorandum of Understanding between the Convention Secretariat and the Ministry of Public Health, Uruguay
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Convention Secretariat and the Ministry of Public Health of Uruguay was signed on 21 May 2014. According to MoU, the International Cooperation Centre on Tobacco Control of the Ministry of Public Health will act as knowledge hub to promote the sharing of information and knowledge on implementation of the Convention internationally.
The functions of the ICCTC would include, inter alia, “to develop, analyse, synthesize and disseminate to the Parties to the Convention knowledge and information relating to matters under its expertise in relation to the Convention” in accordance with Article 22 of the Convention, with a view to promoting and fostering scientific and technical cooperation among the Parties to the Convention.
The ICCTC was earlier established, by an order of the Government of Uruguay, to promote international cooperation for the implementation of the WHO FCTC through the exchange of information on legal, medical, communication and management matters related to tobacco control.
