France - Health consequences of exposure to tobacco smoke acknowledged by the court

In the past 10 years, courts in France have taken decisions against employers for non-compliance with the "Loi Evin".

On 17 March 2011, for the first time, a court recognized, in a decision, the link between environmental tobacco smoke and the lung cancer developed by a plaintiff, and also decided to award compensation. The case reached a successful outcome with the support of Les Droits des Non-Fumeurs (the French non-smokers’ rights association).
