Protecting present and future generations

This year marks, as for every second year, important intergovernmental negotiations for the future of Global Tobacco Control. The Eighth Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP8) to the WHO FCTC will be convened in Geneva (Switzerland), at the seat of the Convention Secretariat, from 1 to 6 October 2018. If 40 Parties to the treaty become Parties to the Protocol to Eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products by 2 July 2018, COP8 will be followed by the first session of the Meeting of the Parties (MOP1).

COP8 will bring together the 181 Parties to the Convention as well as the observers namely, States that are not Parties to the Convention, international intergovernmental and nongovernmental organizations.

The Convention Secretariat has dedicated a webpage to COP8 where the official documentations and all necessary information will be accessible for delegates and participants. Also, joining the United Nations' efforts to reduce paper waste, COP8 will have its own APP, guarantying easy access to the information for delegates and participants.

Last but not least, the Convention Secretariat has released the Information Kit for Delegates to the Conference of the Parties. The kit has been developed mainly for new delegates to the COP to understand how the COP operates, as well as its practices and procedures. Check it out the Information Kit here.
