Meeting of the working group on Articles 17 and 18
The working group established by the Conference of the Parties (COP) on economically sustainable alternatives to tobacco growing in relation to Articles 17 and 18 of the WHO FCTC met for the third time from 14 to 16 February 2012 in Geneva at WHO headquarters.
The meeting was attended by 21 representatives of Parties to the Convention, 3 intergovernmental and 2 nongovernmental organizations with specific expertise in this area, and was chaired by Dr Justino Regalado Pineda (Mexico).
During the meeting, participants shared country experiences and discussed the draft policy options and recommendations prepared by the Key Facilitators (Brazil, Greece, India, Mexico and Turkey). Based on the discussions at the meeting, the Key Facilitators will now further develop the draft text. This revised draft will be shared with the members of the working group and Parties to the Convention for feedback, and thereafter will be submitted for consideration by COP5.
