The Convention Secretariat to the WHO FCTC

The Convention Secretariat was established by the Conference of the Parties, in accordance to Article 24 of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) and operates within the World Health Organization in Geneva. The main functions of the Secretariat aim at supporting Parties in fulfilling their obligations under the Convention, providing the necessary support to the Conference of the Parties and translating the decisions of the Conference into programme activities. The Secretariat cooperates in its work with relevant departments of the WHO and other competent organizations and networks. On 1 June 2007, Dr Haik Nikogosian was appointed as the first Head of the Convention Secretariat.
