Mzurisana’s story: blinding trachoma
WHO/Chris de Bode

An estimated 80 million people worldwide have trachoma, including Eliamulika, Mzurisana’s neighbour.

The infection is spread through contact with eye discharge from the infected person on towels, handkerchiefs, fingers, etc. and by flies. Poor hygiene, crowded households, water shortages, and flies fuel its spread in the family and the community.
