Just outside El Fasher, the Al Salaam camp is home to 49 000 internally displaced persons. Close to 10 000 of them are children under five. Their number grows daily with constant new arrivals and an average of two babies born in the camp's health facility each day. When children first arrive, they are weighed, vaccinated, and if there are illnesses they are diagnosed and treated by camp health staff.
