Outbreak of Ebola haemorrhagic fever in DRC

Surveillance team members meeting local community leaders
WHO/Chris Black

Near Kampungu, experts from the health ministry, WHO, MSF and CDC work with community leaders to trace people who have come in contact with patients with suspected or confirmed Ebola fever. People known to have come in contact with patients are monitored for 21 days, which is the maximum incubation period for the disease. This surveillance is critical to breaking the virus transmission chain.
