Outbreak of Ebola haemorrhagic fever in DRC

A second field laboratory -- set up by PHAC in Mweka -- confirms the diagnosis of Ebola cases, but also of malaria and Shigella dysenteriae. As the initial symptoms of Ebola are similar to other illnesses such as Shigella, quick diagnosis is critical to breaking the transmission chain. Once Ebola is diagnosed, the patient is immediately isolated and treated.
