Managing Marburg fever in Uganda

Nurse speaking with coordinator of WHO response team
WHO/Christopher Black

At Ibanda Hospital, nurse Lucy Tibahwerwa explains to Dr Nestor Ndayimirije of WHO the infection control steps taken during the treatment of the miner. The health workers used caution in nursing the patient based on their past experience with Ebola - another haemorrhagic fever. This helped to stop the epidemic from spreading. The miner eventually recovered. His colleague who had brought him for treatment was not so fortunate and some days later died of similar symptoms. A third person tested positive for Marburg virus but survived.
