A man dives into the river Ganges in India. The river is used extensively for washing, bathing and cleaning animals, and is highly contaminated with faeces. Using faecally polluted water increases the risk of diarrhoea. As many as 1.8 million people die every year from diarrhoeal diseases (including cholera), 90% of them children under five, mostly in developing countries.
