About 2.4 million people were affected by the cyclone and needed emergency relief, according to UN statistics. Overcrowding in temporary shelters poses the threat of disease outbreaks. Children, women and the elderly are particularly vulnerable to numerous health risks, including acute respiratory infections, diarrhoeal diseases, malaria and dengue fever.
