In the Ziarat and Pishin districts, the earthquake toppled more than 2000 mud brick homes as their inhabitants slept. It damaged local infrastructure, including health facilities, many of which were rendered unsafe for use. More than 10 000 people were displaced. Tens of thousands more did not have shelter, blankets, warm clothing, food and safe drinking water.
